How to Drawing New Project in Autocad Electric
Create, add, organize, and remove drawings in a project.
To launch Project Manager: Click . Find
Create a Drawing
- (Optional) To create the drawing in an existing folder within the project, select the folder name in Project Manager.
- Do one of the following:
- Click the New Drawing tool.
- Right-click at the bottom of the tree inside Project Manager and select New Drawing.
- Right-click on the project or folder name and select New Drawing.
- Enter the drawing name.
- Specify the template drawing to use for the creation of the drawing file. If left blank, the default ACAD.DWT file is used.
- Select or create the directory where you want to save the drawing.
- (Optional) Enter descriptions for the drawing.
- (Optional) Specify the default values for the project, installation, and location fields.
- (Optional) Specify the sheet, drawing number, section or subsection.
- (Optional) Click OK-Properties to define settings and options for your drawing.
- Click OK.
Add Active Drawing
- In Project Manager, right-click the project or folder name you want to add the drawing to.
- Click Add Active Drawing.
Add Drawings
- In Project Manager, right-click the project or folder name you want to add the drawings to.
- Click Add Drawings.
- Browse to and select the drawings you want to add and click Add.
Copy a Drawing
Select the folder to copy the drawing to, enter a new file name and select the project to save the drawing to. When prompted, specify whether to apply the project default values to the drawing settings (in the WD_M block definition).
- Right-click the drawing name, and select Copy To.
- Select the file location for the new drawing.
- Enter a drawing name.
- Select which project to add the drawing to using the Project drop-down menu.
- Click Save.
- Specify whether to apply the project default values to the drawing.
Group Drawings Using Folders
- Select the drawings you want to move into the subfolder. Use the Ctrl or Shift key to select multiple drawing names.
- Drag the mouse over the subfolder and let go to move the drawings into the subfolder.
Group Drawings Using Section/Subsection
- Right-click the drawing name, and select Properties Drawing Properties.
- Click the Settings tab.
- In the Sheet Values section, enter a section or subsection code for the drawing.
- Click OK.
Repeat for each drawing you want to group, making sure to assign the same section or subsection code to each.
Change the Order of Drawings in the Project
Do one of the following:
- Drag and drop drawings within a project in Project Manager. If you want to move the drawings to a specific place in a folder, expand the folder. Otherwise, drawings dropped on the folder name are added at the end of that folder.
- Right-click on project name and click Sort. Select an option for folder placement, and sorting within subfolders.
Remove a Drawing from the Active Project
Do one of the following:
- Right-click the drawing name and select Remove.
- Right-click the project name and select Remove Drawings. Select the drawings to remove from the Select Drawings to Process dialog box.
Preview a Drawing
- Select a drawing from the list.
- In the Details pane, click Preview.
- Click Details to return to the drawing description for the drawings.
Assign Drawing Descriptions
- Right-click the drawing name and select Properties Drawing Properties.
- Enter up to three description lines for the drawing.
Select from a list of predefined descriptions from the active project by clicking the arrow.
- Click OK.
Tip: These descriptions can link to an attribute in the title block for automatic update.
Define a Drawing as Reference Only
Reference only drawings are not included in tagging, cross-referencing, and reporting functions but can be included in project-wide plotting and title block operations.
- Right-click the drawing name and select Properties Drawing Properties.
- Select the For Reference Only check box in the Drawing File section.
- Click OK.
